ACTIVITIES OF THE RENAL DISASTER RELIEF TASK FORCE (RDRTF) OF THE  
INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF NEPHROLOGY (ISN) IN THE ISRAELO-LEBANESE  
WAR, LEBANON JULY, 2006

3rd communication report RDRTF (August 7).

1) Material donated by MSF to carry out 2000 dialysis sessions,  
shipped to Larnaca on
July 29th from Brussels, arrived at last in Lebanon Friday night,   
August 4th. This occurred rather smoothly. Distribution is going on,  
with much difficulties.
2) Another set of material, for 15000 sessions came in over land via  
Damascus on Sunday, August 6th. There were a lot of problems, though,  
in part due to road destruction. The two loads together create a  
reserve for a few weeks.
3) The delivery foreseen for July 15th, offering a reserve for 6  
months, which never reached Lebanon, has finally been located and is  
stored in Alexandria, Egypt.
4) This freight is probably too bulky to bring in over land.
5) Also importation over sea should be done by bits and pieces.
6) A major problem can be expected with customs, if these materials  
are imported as commercial items.
7) Discussions are going on with MSF to find a solution which does  
not interfere too much with the other activities of MSF.
